The Kent Island Giving Circle is a group of women that meets twice yearly on Kent Island, MD, to support local organizations which serve people in need in the community. Our mission statement is:

To educate ourselves to the needs of the community and leverage our collective resources to support those needs.

The Kent Island Giving Circle stands as a testament to the transformative power of community-driven philanthropy. This Giving Circle embodies the spirit of grassroots activism and collective generosity. Through their concerted efforts, the Giving Circle directs their pooled resources towards local causes, addressing pressing needs within their community. Their commitment not only demonstrates the profound impact that can be achieved through collaboration but also serves as an inspiring example of how small acts of giving can yield significant and meaningful change at the grassroots level.

The Kent Island Giving Circle is comprised of dedicated women who each contribute $100 twice a year at meetings on Mondays in April and October. The Giving Circle invites three local charitable organizations to make presentations about the services they provide in Queen Anne's County. After hearing from the organizations, the circle makes a decision on which one(s) to support. Each member donates their contribution directly to the designated organizations.

- The Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (CBEC ) has a number of great activities and events that are both fun and educational. Check them out at https://bayrestoration.org/events/.
- One of our presenters from last year was EBeauty, which provides wigs, head coverings, and support resources free of charge to women and individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Recently, the American Cancer Society generously donated approximately 100,000 wigs, scarves, and related cancer support items to EBeauty for distribution to hospitals and individuals in treatment. To manage this incredible gift, EBeauty secured additional warehouse space in Stevensville and urgently needs volunteers to help consolidate approximately 4,000 boxes into 1,000 organized boxes for distribution. The work is straightforward, but it is time-intensive, and many hands are needed. Once you volunteer, you will quickly see why so many people are passionate about EBeauty’s mission. The transformation work they do — helping women look in the mirror and feel like themselves again during treatment — is remarkable. Spending even a few hours there gives you a powerful glimpse into the hope and confidence they help restore every day. Volunteer shifts are generally Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. You can call 240-535-9082 to make arrangements. The warehouse is located at 216 G Log Canoe Circle Stevensville, MD (Business park off Route 8).
- Please consider volunteering to be a partner in Queen Anne's County Character Counts program. Volunteers are partnered with a K-5 classroom for the school year. Requests for schools, grades, or specific teachers are honored to the extent they are available. Each volunteer works directly with their teacher to determine a schedule that works for both and plan to visit twice a month. Each visit, the “coach” does a 20–30-minute lesson on the monthly pillar of character (which changes each month). The total commitment is roughly an hour a month, with provided lessons and resources. Volunteer duos who prefer to work together are also accommodated. More info can be found on the website, www.peopleofcharacter.org.
